I really just did not have a good experience here. I brought my car in for an oil change and asked them to take a look at my trunk, which wouldn’t open. They told me they would take a look, give me an estimate, and not do anything else unless I gave them the green light. They then sent me an estimate for over $1,500 for a long list of repairs, and I saw that they had gone ahead and charged me $30 to get the trunk open, and wanted to charge another $400 for the repair. There was even a little green checkmark next to the $30 charge that said I had approved the work when I hadn’t, but I didn’t feel that was worth arguing over and went to pick up my car and take it somewhere else. I saw that they had also dented the back of my car to force the trunk open. I took it to another shop and the guys there looked at my trunk, found a rock in the latch, and fixed it in about 2.5 seconds for free. Gateway had tried to sell me a laundry list of unnecessary repairs that they wanted to charge a premium for, and the guys at the other shop advised me to take a vacation to Vegas with all the money I saved by getting a second opinion.
Marissa, we're sorry you did not have a good experience here. When you came in for your oil change, you mentioned that you hauled a half-ton of dirt in the trunk of your Toyota Corolla, and you were concerned that the trunk would not open as the back seat release was also in the trunk. You approved $73.46 for an oil change and to access and decide what was wrong with your trunk release after using it as a pickup truck, and that's exactly the amount you paid. While changing your oil, we visually noted that your battery terminals are corroded, your transmission fluid is discolored, your engine belt squeels on startup, and your front brakes exhibit uneven wear with portions of your brake pads down to 25%. We are happy for you that you found a mechanic that believes you should party in Vegas rather than keep a safe and well-maintained car, but we would advise against driving this car to Vegas in its current condition.
